Packing the Hospital Bag
Posted on | June 1, 2009 | 6 Comments
I finally stopped procrastinating and packed my hospital bag when I realized that Holy SHIT! It’s June and I will be giving birth in 1 month. I packed nearly half of my apartment so I swear the damn thing weighs about 20 lbs. Let’s see ..
-Gown
-Robe
-Slippers
-Socks
-2 pairs of sweats
-2 T-shirts
-Dress to wear home
-Granny panties
-Nursing bra and pads
-Soap
-Deodorant
-Toothpaste/brush
-Sanitary pads
-Dvds
-Books
-MP3 player
-Outfits for Jack
-Blankets for both of us
-Sleep pillow and Boppy pillow
I think that should be every thing. Start my breast feeding class tonight and Birth on the 4th. Phew everything is starting to get busy now.
Now I’m off to braid my hair – final hairstyle until after the baby gets here! Then go to bed.

You’re set. I can’t wait!
I didn’t have my hospital bag with me when I went into labor. My whole birth plan and music selection and laboring outfit was a waste of time. Lol.

Why didn’t you have your bag? Did you go into labor somewhere unexpectedly?
I’m going to NEED my music and dvds .. probably laptop too when I’m there. They will comfort me lol. I’m planning to throw the bag in my moms car in a couple of weeks so I know eventually it will make it there. Just sucks about the hot ass weather or I would do it now!

While everyone’s L&D experience is different, I will say that I had my dvds, music, MP3 player and a book with me and didn’t touch any of them. I spent every moment that I was not in a morphine induced sleep staring at or holding Monkey. I’d also say skip the socks, the hospital will give you the slipper ones and probably some special ones that reduce clotting in the legs and such. Also the hospital pads are better than the ones you can buy so I’d skip those too. And you’ll probably be in mesh panties for about a day.
But, I’m just trying to be helpful!!! OH!! Don’t forget a camera or two!!!
You’re so close!!!!!

Thanks for the tips! I’m bringing the DVDs and Books just incase something happens where I have a lot of labor to do. I do think I will be listening to music while I birth because I listen to music throughout every thing I do! I love haing a soundtrack to my life!
Everything else is just in case.
Oh yeah my digital cam + my moms digicam are def a must! I’m still waiting for a couple of weeks to pass before i stick it in the bag.

I was three days past my due date, but convinced I wouldn’t be going into labor any time soon (I was so in denial or something). My mom insisted that I spend the night at her house one night, and I woke up the next day alone in labor. By the time she left work to take me to the hospital (which was 20 miles away), I was in full blown active labor and didn’t have time to stop at my place and pick up the bag!!
My brother/roommate brought it for me later that night, so at least I had some comforts of home for the rest of my stay even though I didn’t have my laboring stuff in time.

I totally brought my own socks and slippers, and am so glad I did!! I only had to wear the HUGE hospital sanitary pads (more like diapers) for the first day. Same for the mesh undies!! Im sure you will just feel more comfy in your own stuff!! I am also a chapstick freak and had to have that right next to me too!! Sounds like you are well prepared!! I too brought lots of stuff “just in case” but if youre like me you will have someone bringing you something that you never thought youd need!! Good luck it’ll be here before you know it!! BTW What is your actual due date?
