I am a single mother of a biracial baby boy just trying to make it on my own. This journey is hard, yet rewarding. Blogging is my therapy, these words are my heart, and people doing better and being inspired by what I have written is my passion and hope.

Unfortunately the nose bleeds are normal. Mine started literally the day after I got pregnant and lasted almost the whole way through. I cannot handle blood at all lol so it sucked.

Satsuki Rebel's list was great, I couldn't have lived without any of that stuff lol.
Especially the stroller because I didn't have a car at the time and we walked EVERYwhere.
Baby carriers were great too. My son was really colicky and it helped to hold him and be able to do other things at the same time.
(if you want a sling or carrier email me and I'll send one of mine to you!)

I didn't use a diaper bag either -- I found them really uncomfortable and a found that regular messanger bags worked even better.

I found burp clothes were pretty useless.. lol

White noise, however, was a life saver. He's almost 2 and still uses it!

My son also loves really soft blankets. I know it sounds silly lol but if I lay one down beside him he goes right to sleep. If I use another one it can take up to an hour for him to settle down.

I didn't have a swing for James (it was recalled when he was just a couple weeks old) but all of my friends swore by them and I know he loved them at the park, he'd fall right asleep lol

I know there are a ton of things that my friends got at their baby showers and I remember thinking, "yup, you're never going to use any of that" lol

I'm going to think about it and let you know!

She's right about the boppy. That thing is a lifesaver! I got mine from a local Once Upon a Child Store (consignment). It's great even if you don't end up breastfeeding. It alone saved my back from hurting during her 30+ min feeding sessions.

Oh, I was trying to find a pic of the gowns I was describing since I didn't think I did a good job. Here's an example: http://cgi.ebay.com/Lot-Of-Baby-Infant-Boy-Gowns-Newborn-0-3-Months_W0QQitemZ200303751909QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item200303751909&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A570|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50

You left out my all-time favorite:

Receiving blankets! Don't expect to actually use those lightweight things as blankets, they work GREAT as burp cloths. I only add this because most burp clothes are so skiny that the baby ends up getting spitup on both the cloth and the shirt. Receiving blankets cover a much larger space. Plus you can keep them around into the early toddler years when food time is still pretty messy. The bigger ones also work well for swaddling.

Tip #1: Master swaddling. Before your baby gets there grab a doll, check out a library book or look online. Master this technique. When the baby does come being out in all that fresh air and freedom can be a bit scary. They like that snug feeling they had in mummy's tummy.

Tip #2: Shushing and other "white" noise. This doesn't fix everything but it helps. Also keeping fans in the room, near the crib but not blowing on the baby has been shown to reduce SIDS (recent discovery).

Tip #3: Jiggling. Don't shake the babe but when swaddled, rocked or lightly jiggling is soothing as well. Just imagine laying in a pool with the waves constantly in motion.

Oh right, back to your original Q, umm... receiving blankets, diapers, onesies, car seat, stroller. Oh! Sleepers are nice but it pays to stock up on some warm "gowns." These have elastic near the bottom and are made to keep the babys feet in. It makes diaper changes SO much easier.

Diaper bag- note: I actually bought a messenger bag in the guys section at walmart for this. It had just as many pockets only it didn't look so full of pinks and kid characters.

Freezer meals, soups, etc, when that baby comes no one has time to cook from scratch.

Pacifiers if you choose to use them.

Err, that's all I've got right now. Good luck.
