All is Well

I can’t believe it’s been so long since I’ve updated. I’ve been so busy going going going lately. Things are going well! My baby is 8 months now and growing so fast. He started standing independently about 3 weeks ago and Sunday he took his first steps! I honestly could not be more proud of him. He makes my life.
He is currently in daycare which has been freeing up a little bit of time for me to work and this month it has paid off. I’ve done really well and am trying to get back on my feet. I had been planning to move into a nice, larger apartment in a different complex once my lease was up in August, but yesterday the apartment manager called me and told me the city is expanding the freeway next to my apartment and that they are tearing out our parking lot and would be working directly infront of my place. So to compensate for this she offered me a larger, newly renovated apartment for the same rate I’m paying on my studio and also free moving and moving equipment that she would arrange for me. I just have to be out of the studio by Monday and I have to sign a year long lease on the new place. I was looking forward to moving away from here, but I honestly think that’s an offer I can’t pass up. It’s an upgrade and very little financial responsibility on me to get the move off. So I save moving costs and about $200 a month on rent that I was planning on paying. This complex is not my fave because some neighbors are annoying and some units are infested with roaches .. but I can’t really complain. I just hope I have decent neighbors and little or no pests.

Roaches? I think I’d freak out.
But then, I am in Minnesota. I’m not even sure if we have roaches here. I’ve never seen one. The only infestations I’ve ever dealt with were mice- and that was when we lived in the woods. They’re pretty hard to avoid out there.
Oh, no wait, every year I do my annual apt fight against fruit flies. Those things freak me out too. Anything that moves in with me without asking first and multiplies insanely overnight gives me the willies.
We get some ants too but those are easy to destroy, good ol’ Terro.
But good luck on your new place. If it’s insect free it sounds like a pretty good deal.
I think annoying neighbors are everywhere.

Annoying neighbors are definitely everywhere. I wanted the top floor so that no one would be stomping around above me. Unfortunately got stuck on the middle floor. The people above me sound like they are always dropping bowling balls. And someone in my building is constantly slamming doors hard enough that you can feel it. Unless you move into a house, you’ll always be stuck with the clowns. :/
Good luck on your move! I hope the new apartment turns out to be what you need. Kudos on you for recognizing the fact that you can save money by staying where you are, instead of incurring that expense to move.

Satsuki – I know what you mean! Every summer I have to battle friggin fruit flies. I hate them and they’re so hard to get rid of! When I first moved into my studio there were roaches everywhere but eventually they disappeared after the first 4 or so months. I hope none turn up here at the new place. So far so good. I let off some foggers in every room yesterday so hopefully that ran off any that may be hiding.

Marilie – You’re right about that. Annoying neighbors are everywhere. Here they moved in tons of young college-aged kids around my studio and every night it was a party between about the 20 of them. I hope here will be a LITTLE different.

Bridgette,
Hi, I just stumbled on your site doing a search for single mom blogs. I’m also a completely single mom and am looking for a supportive network of others going through the same thing.
I read your post on being sick & wow, could totally relate to that! It’s a challenging job with lots of rewards. Hang in there, hon!
Lots of love!

i live in a condo, and we get scorpions so i find if you buy the poison in concetrate and dilute spray with a sprayer along all the creases leave for about 6+ hours you will stay all insect free. depending on your area i would spray every 3-6 months. i learned that from my dad. he is an “i do everything” man so i have never had to hire an exterminator.

I also have a blog about single parenting. My last topic might help you with one of your questions in an older post, “how do other moms deal with being sick and taking care of their baby?” http://www.godandraisingchildrenalone.blogspot.com

Sounds like God dropped just the apartment you needed into your lap! How awesome is the timing of that. I just stumbled onto your blog but had to comment. That was just too cool of a story to share and your can do attitude is super inspiring. Not a single mommy but definitely struggle to make ends meet still and your post offered a little extra hope! Please update again and share how things are going!
