Raw and Honest Blog of a New Single Mom

I am a single mother of a biracial baby boy just trying to make it on my own. This journey is hard, yet rewarding. Blogging is my therapy, these words are my heart, and people doing better and being inspired by what I have written is my passion and hope.

Several Months Later …

Hey guys! I wanna update and say that I’m still here although I haven’t REALLY been around here lol. You guys are awesome for continuing to read this blog and leave me comments. I appreciate you all, and I’m so happy that my words and experiences are still helping people cope or giving people something to relate to.

I’ve gotten a few emails wondering how me and my son are doing .. we are great! He’s almost 4 now .. he will be next month. He’s freaking huge. They say he’s the size of a 5 year old. He’s active, plays soccer, although he’s telling me he’s interested in learning to fight .. like martial arts. He wants to be like Batman. I dunno. I think I may make him wait another year on that one. I’ve been having to take him to the psychologist lately because of behavioral issues and we’re learning he very well may be ADHD as well as a form of functioning Autism. We’re still doing testing. It’s just that he’s a loner in school, he’s bored with the activities so he doesn’t participate, he likes counting and lining things up, etc. He does have a temper too. The doctor encouraged me to pull him out of daycare and place him in public school instead to see if it’s a more stimulating environment that will keep his attention and shift his behavior. If all goes well and he’s accepted he should start in August!

As far as me .. I’m just a busy bee. I work a lot doing graphic and web design. I went for it in college these past 2 years and nearly graduated, although I dropped my Javascript class and so I was suspended from financial aid :( Noooo. I only have like 8 more classes then I can graduate, although I don’t know if I ever will. They’re kinda bullshit classes I have no interest in, ya know? Learning has been most important, degree is just a bonus.

We moved into a new apartment a couple months ago and I love it. It’s soooo freaking cute and feels waaay bigger than my last one. I’m doing a bit better at keeping it clean. It gets messy at times, but never as dirty as it used to. Now that my son is older he still messes, but he’s better at helping me pick up. He likes to help mommy clean and cook.

I’ve been seeing this man named Aaron the past several months. He’s awesome and I’m totally crazy about him, but that’s my secret lol. We’ve known each other about a year and like the 2 nerds we are, we met on an online forum. As luck would have it he lives only 4 hours away from me and has a great job that frequently gives him time off, so as of now he comes to visit about once a month. He too is a single parent, to an 8 yo girl, but I have not met her and he has not met Jack. We’re just kinda taking it slow now and spend our time together with just each other.

I’m still cool with Daddy. We’ve pretty much put the past behind us and I consider him a friend. I take our son to see him whenever I have the time. Maybe about 3 times a year or so? Jack loves seeing his dad, and Daddy loves seeing him as well. He got this huge tattoo of our son on his arm a couple years ago. Did I ever mention that? Like looking back in the days when I was pregnant who ever would have thought that would have happen? Who would have thought we’d be friends lol.

Well, I gotta go I haven’t slept yet so today’s gonna be hell and I have a looot to get accomplished. I will try to keep you guys better updated on how things go with my son’s tests and assessments.
